Farm Holiday
In the heart of the Val dOrcia, among the artistic itineraries of
Sant Antimo Abbey, the historic and urban ones of Montalcino, the
naturalistic ones of Monte Amiata and the thermal waters of Bagno
Vignoni, you can find the Piombaia Agritourism.
The agritourism started in 1995 in a traditional farmhouse which still
conserves its rustic flavour of the countryside, but today is provided
with every type of comfort and service quarantee its high quality.
This excellence is reflected in the growing demand and our faithful
clients. Here, in fact, its possible to discover the values of an
area that combines natural beauty, artistic treasures and urban sights,
beholders of great civilization dating back to The Middle Ages. A
civilization which is never betrayed, which instead today is promoted
and valued by the alliance of tourism, culture, sport, thermal waters
and excursions.
The grapes and other products are taken care of by the owners
themselves according to old traditional farming techniques together
with modern innovations without altering the quality of the result but
improving it.
The Piombaia Agritourism is an excellent way to experience all this.
There are seven independent apartments, complete with all services and
with all the solutions possible a visitors can desire: small kitchen (with
electric plates, sinks, microwave ovens, fridge, utensils and
accessories), T.V.-SAT, telephones, single heating. Guests are also
offered some services in common: a swimming pool, a traditional
barbecue and rustic wood oven as well as a parking reserved for cars.
Moreover, excursions on foot and by bicycle (to hire) are indicated.
For those fond of the countryside there is the possibility of
participating in the agricultural activities of the farm. Inside the
farmhouse its possible to try the farms products and the typical
local dishes at the Osteria La Crocina. If you add to all this the
courtesy and hospitality of the owners youll agree that the Piombaia
Agritourism is the ideal solution for a completely relaxing vacation..
Sights to visit: we advise, besides Montalcino, not to miss a visit to
the thirteenth century Abbey of SantAntimo, the enchanting views of
the Val dOrcia and the ancient thermal baths of Bagno Vignoni. You
can visit Siena, 40 km from Montalcino, Montepulciano 30 km away and
Pienza 20 km away
Today the farm spreads out onto about 210 hectares of vineyard, olive
groves and cereal crops. The area is in the centre of the production
of the famous Brunello, south-east of the hill of Montalcino in an
ideal climatic and geological position.
The grapes and other products are taken care of by the owners

with modern innovations without altering the quality of the result but
improving it.
The 800 quintals of grapes which annually are harvested, are then
selected for the wine production. As soon as the wine is ready it is
stored in oak casks to age for the necessary time, without adding any
additives or artificial ingredients. The genuine Brunello and Rosso
wine are guaranteed by the D.O.C.G. label.
The history of Piombaia Farm starts from the union of two families:
the Rossi family and the Cantini family. The Rossi family are
originally from the area of Montalcino. In the 1950s Mario and his
wife Carolina, both farmers, privately ran part of the Pecci family
estate, a noble and ancient Montalcino family. Caroline comes from
this line of the family.
The familys business started in this way and grew with the Cantini
familys help. Vittorio Cantini, from Pisa, worked in the 1950s as a
farmer in another estate. Soon he married Lida, Mario and Carolinas
daughter. This union enabled the purchase of other lands, among which
the Piombaia Farm. It was the basis for the company and improved the
agricultural business of the two families. Remo, Lidas brother also
helped in the success of the farm.

helped in the success of the farm. He became a priest and his devotion
and precious advice played an important role in guiding the family
during his life and even after his recent death. Remos indispensable
help and Lidas direction made the company grow. Their roles were
separated: both brother and sister are in charge of the technical
management and Vittorio is in charge of the economic management.
The whole area where the agritourism stands today was purchased in the
80s at the time of the Brunello wine production boom. The Rossi
Cantini family foresaw that the future of Montalcino would be in its
wine. Lida and Vittorios son Roberto enhanced the farm by modernizing
it: new productive technology is used without sacrificing genuine and
high quality aspects of the product. The agricultural activity not
only expanded but developed in an agritouristic way with the
restructuring of one of the most beautiful farmhouses in Montalcino:
La Crocina
Piombaia, La Crocina and Aiole are all part of the company. The
company will be handed down to Robertos children: Vittorio, Francesco
and Cecilia, who show their devotion and desire to maintain the high
quaility in the name of their family.
